Mission

Desi Knowledge is a 501 c(3) nonprofit organization based in Mountain View, CA.  Our mission is to connect children from around the world to India and its culture.

This mission starts from our webstore here at www.DesiKnowledge.org where you can get carefully selected children's books and media from top publishers in India and abroad. Desi Knowledge is now the official USA and Canada partner for Amar Chitra Katha, India's most popular line of children's comics. We also carry offerings from many publishers who are creating innovative content specifically for kids growing up abroad.

Beyond the webstore, Desi Knowledge also partners with other organizations with similar vision to accomplish our mission. Some examples:

  • Partnered with Arts India West to organize a kids art event.
  • Partnered with Pleasanton Library (Pleasanton, CA) on their series of Indian cultural events
  • Sponsored with Vibha to sponsor best dressed kid & best child dancer in the Vibha Disco Dandia held at multiple locations.
  • Partnered with India Community Center to do book readings.
  • Consulted and provided books and DVDs to over 50 public libraries to develop their India-related collections, based on their community’s needs.

If you or an organization you know is organizing a children's event related to India and its culture, we want to know! We want to work with you to make your event a success by sponsoring prizes. To have your event considered for sponsorship, share with us details of the event including the name of organization, expected participation and other relevant information to the email address below

Our Story

Desi Knowledge started in 2003, with two people who saw their friends dealing with the question of how to bring some Indian culture to their kids who were being born and raised here in USA. Samir and Monica Khosla founded the organization as a way to make it easier for parents to share with their families the books that they themselves used to read as kids. Soon, they found that these families were helping redefine the two cultures they were exposed to: Indian and American, hence the birth of the third culture. This is where Desi Knowledge still gets its energy and inspiration: to become a bridge between the kids and their culture by making knowledge from India fun and accessible.
